A Little About Us
Hello! I’m Corinne—wife, mom of two school-aged kids, and a modern suburban homesteader (very much still a work in progress).
Before I understood homesteading as a mindset and lifestyle, I thought it was only for “those people” living off-grid in the middle of nowhere with acres of land. I also assumed—completely without evidence, of course—that “those people” were probably a little bit weird. (I now formally retract that highly scientific conclusion.)
Now? I think homesteaders are some of the most resourceful, creative, inspiring humans out there. I’ve learned that homesteading has very little to do with geography or acreage. It’s really about self-sufficiency, sustainability, and blending traditional skills with modern life—so we can become producers vs. consumers, and in the process, improve our health and wellbeing.
And for my family, our suburban homesteading journey really started with health.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder that was taking a serious toll on my body. On top of the usual chaos of working full time and raising two kids, I learned my body was severely lacking essential nutrients and minerals needed for basic functioning. Most days I felt like I was moving through life in a fog, unable to understand why even normal daily stress felt overwhelming.
With a diagnosis and surgery on the horizon, my health finally became the priority it should have been all along. I also did what any exhausted, hormonal, perimenopausal woman would do—I went down an internet rabbit hole around my diagnosis and discovered food as medicine, ancestral nutrition, and homesteading as a lifestyle.
I started reading about our broken food system, listening to podcasts on whole-food cooking, swapping high-intensity workouts for yoga, and reconnecting with people in my community who shared similar values. With the unwavering support of my husband, I also made the difficult decision to step away from a career I had spent 22 years building—one that, while meaningful, had become a major source of stress I could no longer recover from.
Slowly but surely, I started to feel like myself again—physically, mentally, and emotionally. And I could see those changes ripple through my family too. With a part-time rather than full-time schedule, I finally had more space for my husband, my kids, and the things I’ve always loved but hadn’t made time for in years—crafting, crocheting, knitting, gardening, baking, and reading.
Somewhere along the way, I realized I’ve probably been a homesteader-at-heart all along. So I decided to bring that vision to life on our little one-third acre in suburban northern New Jersey.
This is just the beginning of our journey, but I’m so excited to share the homesteading roots we’re planting as we work toward better health and a more intentional life. So far, I’ve learned that strong roots start with slowing down, eating ancestrally, moving our bodies more, and connecting with community. Simple in theory… not always simple in practice in today’s world.
My hope is that this space helps build a community of suburban homesteading families who share skills, knowledge, and encouragement so we can all grow a little healthier and happier together.
